Little gardener - Spotted flycatcher

This sparrow-like bird is a common nesting bird in Latvia. It returns to Latvia in May from southern Africa where spend winter. They build their nest in woodpiles, pivots, cocklofts. Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa striata lays 2-7 spotted eggs. Parents feed their chicks with flies, mosquitoes, butterflies, bugs and spiders they bring one by one. This is why they have to fly away to seek food more often than Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica which collect even few dozen insects at a time and then flies to chicks.
