The new edition of „Slīteres nacionālā parka Ziņas” („Slitere National Park News”), is now available in Latvian. An English summary is also available electronically. This time the newspaper serves as a tourist guide of nature and culture in Dundaga district. Slitere National Park is a partner of the Baltic Green Belt project and carries out a pilot project on sustainable tourism based on heritage of nature and culture at the Latvian Green Belt.

This time the newspaper has 16 pages and is full of interesting articles and nice photos. A central spread sheet contains a brief roundup of tourism routes and events planned this year. On the last page you can find a map of Dundaga district.

The first half of the newspaper is dedicated to Slitere National Park nature heritage. Slitere National Park researchers describe animals and plants in this territory. The German biologist and journalist Beatrix Stoepel and geography professor Horst Sterr express their opinion on Slitere National Park. The outstanding biodiversity of this territory made the journalist choose this territory for shooting a popular-science film and encouraged the Kiel professor to take 30 geography students on a field trip to the area. Also there are stories and information about the district's culture heritage of coastal fisherman villages as well as the district centre – Dundaga. In the newspaper you will find information about this year’s Travel Day in Slitere that will last for two days – 4th and 5th June, 2011. During these two days you may choose among 17 routes, 11 practical workshops, taste traditional food and take part in other activities.

Slitere National Park News are issued once per year and are distributed in the National Park as well as through tourism offices in Kurzeme and electronically. In total, it reaches approximately 2000 readers and travellers in the region. Additionally, it will be disseminated during 18th annual International Travel Trade Fair "Balttour 2011". This issue was prepared in cooperation with the Latvian Nature Conservancy Agency, Latvia’s rural tourism association „Lauku ceļotājs” and the tourism information centre at Dundaga municipality with a contribution from Kiel University. It was part-financed by the European Union (ERDF). [download id="84"]
